أَلاAh! ياO لَقَوميmy people, to my aid! قَدindeed أَشَطَّتhave gone too far عَواذِليmy female reproachers
وَيَزعُمنَand they claim أَنthat أَودىhas done away بِحَقِّيَwith my truth باطِليmy falsehood
Ah, my people! My reproachers have gone too far.
And they claim my falsehood has undone my truth.
وَيَلحَينَنيand they chide me فيover اللَهوِpleasure أَلاthat … not أُحِبَّهُI love it
وَلِلَّهوِand pleasure has داعٍa caller ذائِبٌwasting away غَيرُnot غافِلِheedless
And they chide me over pleasure, urging me not to love it,
Yet pleasure has a pining caller, never heedless.
