أَقولُI say وَأَبصَرتُand I saw ابنَson of حَزمḤazm ابنson of فَرتَنىFartanā
وُقوفاًstanding لَهُfor him بِالمَأزِمَينِat the two passes القَبائِلُthe tribes
I say, having seen Ibn Ḥazm, son of Fartanā,
with the tribes standing before him at the two passes:
تُرىI wonder فَرتَنىFartanā كانَتshe would have been بِماin what بَلَغَattained ابنُهاher son
مُصَدِّقَةًbelieving لَوif قالَsaid ذَلِكَthat قائِلُa speaker
I wonder—would Fartanā have found what her son had attained
believable, had anyone told her so?
