By my life, Ibn Ḥazm ibn Fartanā has set his course racing
By my life, the son of Hazm son of Fartana has indeed raced
toward a goal where stupefying poison lies.
toward an end where potent poison lies.
وَقَدand indeed قُلتُI said مَهلاًhold back آلَfamily of حَزمِHazm بنِson of فَرتَنىFartana
وَقَد قُلتُ مَهلاً آلَ حَزمِ بنِ فَرتَنى

And I said, “Gently, house of Ḥazm ibn Fartanā—
And I have said, 'Hold back, family of Hazm son of Fartana:
for wronging us holds bitter ṣāb, made bitterer still, and colocynth.”
for in wronging us lie intensely bitter sap and colocynth.'
