أَقولُI say لِعَمروٍto Amr وَهوَwhile he يُلحىis reproached عَلىfor الصّباyouthful passion
وَنَحنُwhile we بِأَعلىin the upper reaches of السيِّرَينِal-Sayyirayn نَسيرُtravel
I say to Amr, while he is reproached for youthful passion,
as we travel in the upper reaches of al-Sayyirayn,
عَشِيَّةَone evening لاno حِلمٌgood sense يَرُدُّturns back عَنِfrom الصِّباyouthful passion
وَلاand no صاحِبٌfriend فيماregarding what صَنَعتَyou have done عَذيرُone who excuses
one evening when no good sense turns one from youthful passion,
and no friend excuses what you have done.
