فَواand oh! نَدَميmy regret إِذwhen لَمdid not أَعُجstop إِذwhen تَقولُshe says لِيto me
فَوا نَدَمي إِذ لَم أَعُج إِذ تَقولُ لِي
تَقَدَّمcome forward فَشَيّعناthen escort us إِلىuntil ضَحوَةِmidmorning الغَدِtomorrow
تَقَدَّم فَشَيّعنا إِلى ضَحوَةِ الغَدِ
And oh, my regret that I did not stop when she said to me:
Alas, I regret when I did not hastily respond as you said to me:
“Come forward, then escort us until midmorning tomorrow.”
“Come forward, let us walk together towards tomorrow's sunrise.”
فَأَصبَحتُso I have become مِمّاof what كانَwas بَينيbetween me وَبَينهاand between her
فَأَصبَحتُ مِمّا كانَ بَيني وَبَينها
سِوىexcept ذِكرِهاthe memory of her كالقابِضِlike one grasping الماءwater بِاليَدِwith the hand
سِوى ذِكرِها كالقابِضِ الماء بِاليَدِ
So I am now, as to what was between me and her,
So I became, from what was between me and her,
save the memory of her, like one grasping water in his hand.
Nothing but the memory of her, like grasping water with my hand.
