أَلاAh! قِفstop بِرَسمِat the traces of الدارِthe dwelling واستَنطِقand make speak الرَسماthe traces
فَقَدfor indeed هاجَstirred أَحزانيmy sorrows وَذَكَّرَنيand reminded me of نُعماNuʿm
Ah, stop at the dwelling's traces and bid the traces speak.

فَبِتُّso I spent the night كَأَنّيas though I شارِبٌa drinker مِنof مُدامَةٍwine
إِذاwhenever أَذهَبَتit dispelled هَمّاًa care أَتاحَتit brought لَهُto him هَمّاa care
So I spent the night as though I were a drinker of wine:
Whenever it dispelled one care, it brought him another.
إِذاwhenever قُلتُI said إِنّيthat I مُشتَفٍfinding healing بِلِقائِهاby meeting her
وَحُمَّand was decreed التَلاقيthe meeting بَينناbetween us زادَنيincreased my سُقماsickness
Whenever I said, 'I shall find healing by meeting her,'
And our meeting was decreed, it worsened my sickness.
