كَأَخيlike one afflicted with الداءِillness الوَجيعِpainful
Indeed, by my life, I spent my night
By God, my nights have become
Like one afflicted with painful illness.
Like a brother to grievous illness,
وَنَجِيُّand the confidant of الهَمِّsorrow مِنّيto me
باتَspent the night أَدنىnearer منthan ضَجِيعيmy bedfellow
And sorrow's confidant, to me,
And relief from anxiety has drawn
Was nearer that night than my bedfellow.
Closer to me than my pillow.
كُلَّماwhenever أَبصَرتُI saw رَبعاًa dwelling place
خالِياًdeserted فَاضَتoverflowed دُمُوعيmy tears
Whenever I saw a dwelling place
Whenever I behold an empty place,
Deserted, my tears overflowed.
My tears overflow.
