    O gazelle, I have no occupation but love.

    For the soul's desire is where the wide eyes are.

    But for you, they would not have drowned in tears when sleepless—

    Streaming eyes, which slumber has not courted.

    And my heart is slow when I draw it

    Toward forgetting love, but my tears are swift.

    So who will help a lovelorn man who wept in longing for a land

    Where I dwelt, with the roads to it barred?

    فَما لَهُ غَيْرُ أَنْفاسِ الصَّبا رُسُلُ

    When the east wind blows gently, read his greeting;

    For he has no messengers but the breaths of the east wind.
