إِلىtoward الرَّملِthe sands عَجلىhasty ثُمَّthen كَرَّرَهاrepeated it الوَجدُlonging
My companion cast a glance from Dhu al-Arak
My companion glanced from Ath-Tharak
Toward the sands, a hasty one; then longing made him repeat it.
Towards the sand dune hurriedly then repeated it ecstatically
وَأَتَبعتُهاand I followed it أُخرىanother glance فَبيfor in me مِثلُthe like of ماwhat بِهِis in him
أَجِلْlet roam ماas much as اسَطَعتَyou can الطَّرْفَthe gaze أُسْعِدْكَI will share your sorrow ياO سَعدُSa'd
And I followed it with another, for I feel what he feels.
And I followed with another like what was with him
Let your gaze roam as much as you can; I will share your sorrow, O Sa'd.
Hurry, what brightened your eye has made you joyful, O Saad!
مَتىwhenever طَرَقَتْنيvisited me نَفحَةٌa breeze غَضَوِيَّةٌfrom the ghada trees

Whenever I am visited by a breeze from the ghada groves,
Whenever a youthful breeze scented with aroma
Whose fragrance arar or rand breathes forth,
Blows from Al-Arar or Ar-Rind
أَزالَتْdislodged فؤادَthe heart of الصَبِّthe lovesick lover عَنfrom مُستَقَرِّهِits resting place

It dislodges the lovesick lover's heart from its resting place
It takes away the heart of the youth from its place
With longing, as the firestick smiles, revealing its fire.
With passion like fire takes away from its cinder
إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle الغَمامُthe raincloud الجَوْدُabundant in rain حَلَّunfastened نِطاقَهُits girdle

When the generous raincloud unfastens its girdle,
When the clouds, the generosity, tighten their belt
Then may Najd and all whom Najd embraces be favored with its rain.
Najd is specifically showered and whoever it includes, Najd
