بِأَبيwith my father as ransom ريمٌa gazelle تَبَلَّجَbeamed ليupon me
عَنْwith رِضىًcontentment فيin طَيِّهِits folds غَضَبُanger
May my father be ransom for a gazelle who beamed upon me,
with contentment that held anger in its folds.
وَأَرانيand he showed me صُبْحَthe dawn وَجْنَتِهِhis cheek
بِظَلامِwith the darkness of الصُّدْغِthe temple-lock يَنْتَقِبُveils itself
And he showed me the dawn of his cheek,
veiling itself with the darkness of his temple-lock.
وَسَعىand he hastened بِالْكَأْسِwith the cup مُتْرَعَةًbrimming
كَضِرامِlike the flame of النَّارِfire تَلْتَهِبُblazes
And he hastened with a brimming cup,
blazing like a flame of fire.
فَهْيَso it is شَمْسٌa sun بِيَدَيْin the two hands of قَمَرٍa moon
وَكِلاand both عِقْدَيْهِماtheir two necklaces الشُّهُبُshooting stars
So it is a sun in the hands of a moon,
and both their necklaces are shooting stars.
وَلَهاand it has مِنْfrom ذاتِهاits own self طَرَبٌrapture
فَلِهذاso for this reason يَرْقُصُdances الحَبَبُthe bubbles
And it has a rapture born of itself,
so for this reason the bubbles dance.
