May God water Kufan's two sandy tracts with abundant rain,
God watered my sand dunes, covering them with heavy rainclouds
filling the udder—a downpour from the two dark cloud banks.
The udder was filled by it, from the sides of the two cisterns

And may a breeze whose fragrance perfumes the soil be released
And it poured a breeze, whose diffusion perfumes the soil
there by the wind's galloping rushes among the thickets.
With it, the prancing of the wind, between the swaying palms

And may the shade there ever remain dusky, as an east wind turns
And its shade still touches gently, turned
toward it, returning in the late afternoons.
Toward it the morning, accustomed to it at the thickets

The places where the flashing showers fall are defended
The places of the doe’s pasturing hide
by a slender brown spear with dancing joints.
Beneath the dark dancer of the slender shoots, fading

To glory, fierce in valor, sweet in grace

Quick in steering the canal, when it rises

To battle, firm of shaft, loose of sheath

A clan traces his descent to Umayya's two branches,
It grew under the protection of the tribe of Umayyah
before whom the tribes' necks bow willingly.
To which voluntarily bow the necks of tribes

In their hands the forelock of elevation shakes
and the supplicant milks successive streams of bounty.
And the unblemished milks the udder of the attainer

slender, with death stretching between its two edges.
That tastes deaths between its two edges, harvesting

keen-eyed for the vital spots when I level it.
Insightful, when I unleash him with the killers

For haughty pride has stretched my reach with it,
So I extended through it the purse of my protector
pledging, on the day of terror, to slake the blades' thirst.
Which includes on the day of panic the flow of casualties
