I marvel at one who seeks to match my stature, though he has already seen
I'm amazed by those who crave my demise when they've seen
The sweep of my hem above the heads of the Farqad stars.
The trails of my robe above the resting place of the eminent.

And I have a lineage in the tribe whose summit is lofty,
I have a glorious lineage among the living that calls for pride,
Broad in the channels of its bloodline, pure in its ancestral roots.
A place of honor, of flowing virtue and sharpened blades.
وَفيَّand in me مِنَof الفَضلِexcellence الّذِيwhich لَوْif ذَكَرْتُهُI recounted it
كَفانِيَwould spare me أَنْhaving to أُزْهَىboast بِجَدٍّof a grandfather وَوالِدِand a father
And in me is such excellence that, were I to recount it,
I have such excellence, that if I mentioned it,
It would spare me the need to boast of grandfather and father.
It would suffice that I be adorned by ancestors and father.
وَرِثْناwe inherited العُلاglory وَهْيَand it الَّتيwhich خُلِقَتْwas created لَناfor us

We inherited glory—and it was created for us—
We inherited greatness, which was created for us,
And we were created for glory and praiseworthy deeds.
And we were created for greatness and glory.

Father after father, from ʿAbd Shams, and thus
Father after father, from Abd al-Shams and so on
Back to Adam, none but a noble man begot us.
To Adam - we slept none but the glorious.
