On Aʿwaj-bred mares eager for battle,
And whoever would repel them meets grievous harm.

He leads all Nizār and rules over them.

At his palm's touch, its shaft almost turns green.

And against him have fought, from Maʿadd and others,
Tribes seeking kingship, their cheeks turned haughtily aside.

So, in the folds of ample mail, he vied in pride with his shadow;
And their grudges were drawn out by the tips of long spears.

Through open hands whose bounty was mingled with might.

So if they envy us, we do not blame them; these
Are glorious deeds that refuse to let their enviers be blamed.
