أَعصَرَO time الحِمىal-Ḥimā (the protected pasture) عُدreturn وَالمَطاياwhile the mounts مُناخَةٌare kneeling
أَعصَرَ الحِمى عُد وَالمَطايا مُناخَةٌ
بِمَنزِلَةٍat a stopping place جَرداءَbarren ضاحٍexposed to the sun مَقيلُهاits noonday resting place
بِمَنزِلَةٍ جَرداءَ ضاحٍ مَقيلُها
O days of al-Ḥimā, return, while the mounts are kneeling
at a barren stopping place, its noonday resting ground exposed to the sun.
لَئِنthough indeed كانَتِwere الأَيّامُthe days فيكَin you قَصيرَةًbrief
لَئِن كانَتِ الأَيّامُ فيكَ قَصيرَةً
فَكَمyet how many حَنَّةٍa spell of longing ليfor me بَعدَهاafter them أَستَطيلُهاI find it long
فَكَم حَنَّةٍ لي بَعدَها أَستَطيلُها
Though the days in you were brief,
yet how many a spell of longing afterward has seemed long to me!
