أَنَاI ابْنُson of الأَكْرَمِينَthe noblest أَبَاًon my father's side وَأُمَّاًand on my mother's side
أَنَا ابْنُ الأَكْرَمِينَ أَبَاً وَأُمَّاً
وَليand I have فَوْقَabove السُّهاal-Suha (a star) هِممٌambitions مُطِلَّهْtowering
وَلي فَوْقَ السُّها هِممٌ مُطِلَّهْ
I am the son of the noblest, on my father's side and my mother's.
And my ambitions tower above al-Suha.
كَثيرٌabundant بيthrough me أُمَيَّةُUmayya فيin المَعاليnoble achievements
كَثيرٌ بي أُمَيَّةُ في المَعالي
وَماليand my wealth مِنْbecause of سَماحِيmy generosity فيهِin it قِلَّهْscantness
وَمالي مِنْ سَماحِي فيهِ قِلَّهْ
Through me, Umayya abounds in noble achievements,
While my wealth, through my generosity, is scant.
سَأَطْلُبُI shall seek رُتْبَةًa rank شَمّاءَlofty حَتّىuntil
سَأَطْلُبُ رُتْبَةً شَمّاءَ حَتّى
يَمُدَّspreads بِهاthrough it عَلَيِّover me العِزُّglory ظِلَّهْits shade
يَمُدَّ بِها عَلَيِّ العِزُّ ظِلَّهْ
I shall seek a lofty rank until
Glory, through it, spreads its shade over me.
وَأَزْحَفُand I shall advance بِالجيادِwith steeds إِلىto مَكَرٍّa battlefield
وَأَزْحَفُ بِالجيادِ إِلى مَكَرٍّ
بِهِin it الأبْطالُthe heroes دامِيَةُbloodstained الأَشِلَّهْthe tunics beneath armor
بِهِ الأبْطالُ دامِيَةُ الأَشِلَّهْ
And I shall advance with steeds to a battlefield
Where heroes' tunics beneath their armor are bloodstained.
وَلَوْand if رَأَتِsaw البُدورُthe full moons نِعالَthe shoes of خَيْليmy horses
وَلَوْ رَأَتِ البُدورُ نِعالَ خَيْلي
لَصِرْنَthen they would become بِهاbecause of them حَواسِدَenvious لِلأَهِلَّهْof the crescent moons
لَصِرْنَ بِها حَواسِدَ لِلأَهِلَّهْ
And if the full moons saw my horses' shoes,
They would envy the crescent moons because of those shoes.
