أَلَسْناAre we not بنيsons of مَرْوانَMarwan كَيْفَhowever تَصَرّفَتْchanges
أَلَسْنا بني مَرْوانَ كَيْفَ تَصَرّفَتْ
بناwith us الحالُcircumstances أَوْor دارَتْturn عَلَيْناagainst us الدوائرُcalamities
بنا الحالُ أَوْ دارَتْ عَلَيْنا الدوائرُ
Are we not the sons of Marwan, however changeful
Are we not the clan of Marwan, see how fate
our lot may be, or however calamities turn against us?
Has turned against us, or time's wheel revolved around us,
إِذاwhen وُلِدَis born المَوْلودthe child مِنّاfrom among us تَهَلَّلَتْbeams with joy
إِذا وُلِدَ المَوْلود مِنّا تَهَلَّلَتْ
لَهُfor him الأَرْضُthe earth وَاهْتَزَّتْand sways إِلَيْهِtoward him المَنابرُthe pulpits
لَهُ الأَرْضُ وَاهْتَزَّتْ إِلَيْهِ المَنابرُ
When a child is born among us, radiant with joy
Whenever a child of ours was born, the earth rejoiced
is the earth for him, and the pulpits sway toward him.
And pulpits shook with joy for him
