And a graceful youth, whose face holds all beauty,
His face contained all beauty, perfect and bright,
And who denies that the full moon shares it with him,
He denied the full moon could his equal be.

Came to me with a cup in his right hand, as though it were
He came, cup in hand like purest silver wrought,
Of gold, its cast metal overlaid with silver.
As if forged by lujayn from finest tibar tree.
فَنازَعْتُهُso I shared with him الصَّهْباءَthe tawny wine طَوْراًat one time وَتارَةًand at another

So I shared with him now the tawny wine, and now
The wine I disputed with him through the night,
The sweet fruit of his saliva, until his rooster announced the dawn.
Till the cock's first crow with the dawn heralded light.
