I visited Abu Amr by night; my mount was frightened
by a barking dog in his valley, one that rejects the guest.
by a barking dog in his valley that spurned the guest.

And he turned away from her, though the pad of her hoof was bleeding
And it turned away from her, her hoof-pad bleeding
from exhaustion—may a slaughterer bloody both his jugulars!
in her exhaustion—may a slaughterer bloody its two jugular veins!
