He invited me to the tawny wine, while night was binding
Let me tell of the night he called me to walk
Its forelocks—a gazelle whose covert lies in my heart.
With him, while the doe in my heart
وَبِتُّand I spent the night لَقىًa castoff مِنfrom عَتبِهِhis reproaches وَمُدامِهِand his wine
وَريقَتِهِand his saliva وَاللَيلُwhile the night ضافٍlong and ample لِباسُهُits robe
And all night I lay cast down by his reproaches and his wine,
Brushed by. And I lay with him till the break of dawn,
And his saliva, while night's robe hung long and full.
Befuddled, as the Pleiades untied their sashes.
فأَسكَرَنيso it intoxicated me وَالنَّجمُwhile the star مُرخٍloosening نِطاقَهُits girdle
جَنىthe fruit الرِّيقِof saliva لاnot ماwhat أُرعِفَتْwas made to bleed مِنهُfrom it كاسُهُhis cup
So I was made drunk, while the star loosened its girdle,
The nectar I drank was not what spills
By the fruit of saliva, not by what his cup bled forth.
From a cup, but the kiss of his mouth.
