Ah, may my father be a ransom for your lands, O Sulayma,
O Sulaima, by your homeland I implore
And the dwelling places al-ʿUdhayb holds.

يَكادُ يُقيمُ مُعْوَجَّ الضُّلوعِ
And I have a sigh that, when they stir my yearning,
My soul, when stirred, can almost set aright
Nearly straightens my curved ribs.
The ribs made crooked from the spite it knows
فَلَمْso did not أُزِرِI send to visit الدِّيارَthe dwellings الطَّرْفَthe gaze حَتّىuntil
فَلَمْ أُزِرِ الدِّيارَ الطَّرْفَ حَتّى

So scarcely had I let my gaze visit the dwellings before
I had not visited long when from my eyes
I emptied there the vessels of tears.
Poured down the vessels brimmed with tears inside
