I visited the fair one, while the watcher

    frightened me—that wicked fellow—

on a night when none could protect me from

    him but its darkness.

So I met Salma, while sleep

ran riot in his eye—may it be gouged out!

And dawn, in the wake of darkness,

was propelled onward by its swift, urgent gait.

Then I departed, and there had been

nothing but an embrace or conversation.
