يا جوادا لم يزل ملتزما

يا جوادا لم يزل ملتزما

بفروض الجود جمعا والسنن

بفروض الجود جمعا والسنن

O generous one, ever devoted

O generous one who has never ceased

To all generosity’s obligations and customary rites,

To uphold the duties of generosity, collectively and individually

في حياتي أشتهي الحنطة لا

في حياتي أشتهي الحنطة لا

في مماتي لحنوطي والكفن

في مماتي لحنوطي والكفن

In life I crave wheat—not

In my life I desire wheat, not

In death, for my funerary perfume and shroud.

In my death, my shroud and coffin

فابعث اليوم بها عاجلةً

فابعث اليوم بها عاجلةً

أو فنفذ لي في الحال الثمنُ

أو فنفذ لي في الحال الثمنُ

So send it today, without delay,

So send it today, urgently

Or else send me its price at once.

Or pay me today the price

وابق يا خدن المعالي والعلى

وابق يا خدن المعالي والعلى

ما شدت ورقاء في أعلى فنن

ما شدت ورقاء في أعلى فنن

And live on, O companion of noble virtues and eminence,

And remain, O pillar of glory and sublimity

As long as a gray dove sings on the highest bough.

As long as leaves blow in the highest branches
