Tell al-Sadid, brother of rectitude and the one who has shown
Tell the righteous man, my brother of righteousness, the one I see
The supplicants' life, through his bounty, to be a life of ease:
Living the carefree life generously, a life of ease

O you, when summoned to dispel a calamity,
O you who when called to uncover a blemish
Your bounty answers the plea of one seeking relief.
Responded to his call, the call of the one taking it easy

If frivolity erases others' forbearance, you have
For you, if you refrain, the dreams of fickle folk
Heights of forbearance like firmly rooted mountains,
Are lofty dreams like firmly rooted mountains

And bounty for which, at dawn, you are called exalted;
With it he claims at dawn boastfully
Indeed, eminence is the garment of every exalted man.
That eminence is the garb of every boaster

You have become the bearer of a creed and a law
You have become an adherent of principles and laws
In noble deeds—deep-rooted and never abrogated.
Deep-rooted in benevolence, never abrogated

I am resolved to journey to al-Jamal, finely arrayed,
My resolve is captive to beauty, adorned
On the back of a long-necked steed, like a broad-winged eagle.
Atop a noble steed like a high-flying eagle

So bestow a saddle pad and a caparison, and I shall say:
So enjoy with cognizance and nod slightly
This new Maysakhi cloth comes from the generous man.
This novel gift of generosity from the generous one

And add, third, a sword as sharp as your resolve,
And a third of a mile like your decisive resolve
Keen, its watered pattern gleaming a parasang away.
Past, gleaming from a mile away

And know that if I ask you for a favor,
And know that if I asked something of you
It will be granted by you, and I will not be reproached.
I would succeed with you and not be rebuked
