    Say to Sadid al-Din, on whom hopes rest:

    May you always be looked to for bounty and held in awe.

    O you, my praise of whose lofty rank

    is like musk among the people, and more fragrant still.

    فما مرجّي نداك أشعب

    May you live as long as Shuʿayb lived;

    for whoever hopes for your bounty is no Ashʿab.

    I have, O dream-vision of generosity, an allowance

    regularly assigned, payable by Banu ʿAmir.

    لكنني في الطريق أتعب

    And the allowance is [scant?], and they are generous;

    but I grow weary on the road.

    So collect it for me here; otherwise

    I must make for al-Musayyib.

    Or else, send something on which

    I may ride to them, if I set out.
