Its scent wafts as musk wafts, the perfume it spreads rich and heady,
Its heady fragrance wafts as musk does,
when the trailing skirts of a wind entwine within her.
When the trailing skirts of a breeze sweep through it.

The heavenly drizzle and the east breeze say to her,
Heaven's drizzle and the east wind say to it,
with the breeze lingering over that ardent longing: “Breathe forth!”
Steadfast in that yearning: "Give forth your fragrance!"

When the mukkāʾ sweetens its song, its chick takes up the refrain;
When the lark sweetens its young one's refrain,
her turtledove answers it with the charm of melody.
Its turtledove answers it with a sweet song,
