كثرhas multiplied الشكdoubt والخلافand disagreement وكلand everyone
كثر الشك والخلاف وكل
يدعيclaims الفوزsalvation بالصراطthrough the path السويstraight
يدعي الفوز بالصراط السوي
Doubt and disagreement have multiplied, and everyone
Doubt and dissent have spread far and wide
claims salvation through the straight path.
Each claims the straight path as their guide
فاعتصاميso my holding fast بلاto 'there is no' إلهgod سواهother than Him
فاعتصامي بلا إله سواه
ثمthen حبيmy love لاحمدfor Ahmad وعليand Ali
ثم حبي لاحمد وعلي
So I hold fast to 'There is no god but Him,'
My faith in Allah alone resides
then to my love for Ahmad and Ali.
And my love for Ahmad and Ali besides
فازattained salvation كلبa dog بحبthrough love for أصحابcompanions of كهفa cave
فاز كلب بحب أصحاب كهف
كيفhow أشقىcould I be wretched بحبthrough love for آلthe family of نبيa prophet
كيف أشقى بحب آل نبي
A dog attained salvation through love for the Companions of the Cave;
A dog earned the Companions' love inside a cave
how could I be wretched through love for a prophet's family?
Why then should I not love the Prophet's kin and clan so dear?
