When I have in full what I have already won:

A rough night are all there is

Of a songstress’s sweetness or a resonant voice,

A beautiful dawn awaits still

وقهوة لو تراها خلت رقتها ديني

ومن حافز إن شئت أغناني

ومن حافز إن شئت أغناني

And wine—if you saw it, you would take its thinness for my faith—

Be patient, my friend

And from an encourager who, if I wish, would enrich me,

فما أبالي بما لاقى الخليفة من

Then I care nothing for what the caliph has suffered from

The eunuch’s aggression and Ibn Hamdan’s rebellion.
