اللهGod يدفعwards off عنfrom نفسlife الوزيرthe vizier بناthrough us
الله يدفع عن نفس الوزير بنا
وكلناand all of us للمناياfor death دونهin his stead غرضa target
وكلنا للمنايا دونه غرض
God shields the vizier’s life through us,
May God protect the soul of Minister Banna
and we are all targets for death in his stead.
Though all of us are destined for death
ففيfor among الأنامmankind لهfor him منfrom غيرناothers besides us عوضa replacement
ففي الأنام له من غيرنا عوض
وليسbut there is no فيin غيرهanyone other than him منهin place of him لناfor us عوضa replacement
وليس في غيره منه لنا عوض
For among mankind, he has others to take our place,
Among the people he has others besides us
but we have no one else to take his place.
But for us there is no other besides him
