A wish that outstripped the herald’s arrival;
My desire preceded the roses of good news
And one arriving—or in—according to what is ordained [wording unclear].
Whether early or late it was bound to happen
ياO عروساa bride زفتwas escorted in bridal procession إليto me فاهديتso I offered gifts
يا عروسا زفت إلي فاهديت
إليهاto her وفيand in مكانthe place of المهورthe dowries
إليها وفي مكان المهور
O bride brought to me in procession, so I offered gifts
Oh bride you were brought to me as a gift
to her, and in place of dowries,
To her and in place of dowry
بالتملىwith lingering enjoyment وبالرجاand with hope والسرورand joy
بالتملى وبالرجا والسرور
ياO حياتيmy life والمنزلand the home المعمورflourishing; inhabited
يا حياتي والمنزل المعمور
with lingering enjoyment, and with hope and joy.
With yearning, hope, and joy
O my life and flourishing home!
Oh my life and blessed home
قدindeed لعمريby my life وفيتyou kept faith ليwith me وسأجزيكand I shall reward you
قد لعمري وفيت لي وسأجزيك
وفاءfulfillment بالشرطin accordance with the condition بعدafter النذورthe vows
وفاء بالشرط بعد النذور
Indeed, by my life, you have kept faith with me, and I shall reward you
By my life I have been faithful to you and I will reward you
in fulfillment of the condition, after the vows.
