منwhoever كانwas يطلبُseeks رأسsummit العزّglory يملكُهpossesses it
من كان يطلبُ رأس العزّ يملكُه
فالجَوّthen the sky والدّوّand the wilderness فيin مرآهhis sight سيّانalike
فالجَوّ والدّوّ في مرآه سيّان
Whoever seeks to possess the summit of glory—
Whoever seeks glory's crown may gain it
to him, sky and wilderness are alike.
The brave and coward in his glass are same
لاno خيرgood فيin عيشةa life فيin دارan abode مسكنةٍabasement
لا خير في عيشة في دار مسكنةٍ
لوeven if كانwere صاحبهاthe one living it فيat رأسthe top of غمدانGhumdan
لو كان صاحبها في رأس غمدان
There is no good in a life in an abode of abasement,
No good is life in abject dwelling
even if the one living it were atop Ghumdan.
Though lord live sheathed in scabbard of acclaim
