وَعَايِنْand behold فيin التُّرابِthe dust فَتىًa young man مُكَرَّمْhonored
Pray for mercy if you stand here, and offer peace.
And behold in the dust a young man held in honor.
عَزِيزٌcherished عاقَهُcut him short ذاthis المَوتُdeath قَسراًby force
وَلَوand had سَلِمَbeen spared ابنُa son of أنْثَىa woman كانhe would have been أسلَمْsafest
A cherished man, whom this death cut short by force.
And had any woman's son been spared, he would have been the safest.

وَلاَnor بِالهُجْرِwith foul speech فيin الدُّنْيَاthis world تَكَلمْhe spoke

He grew mature in youth; and when they grew sweet—
The days, through him—he divorced them and made it final.
وَكَانَand was أبوهُhis father يَأمَلُhoping أنْto يَرَاهُsee him

And his father had hoped to see him
Peerless in perfection; but what he had not hoped for came to pass.

And one with such virtues does not die,
But has fallen asleep, away from a maimed age.

Thus one who knew him said: 'Record the date:
The people's beloved, Husayn Bayram, has fallen asleep.'
