يَا بنِي الْغَربُ وكُنَّا
نَحْسَبُwe considered الجِدَّearnestness مِزَاحاًjest
نَحْسَبُ الجِدَّ مِزَاحاً
O sons of the West, and we used to
Oh children of the West, you and we
take earnestness for jest.
Used to think progress was all fun and games
أوَand is there? فِيكُمْamong you مثلthe like of هَذاthis
أوَ فِيكُمْ مثل هَذا
وَنَرَىand we see عَنْكُمْaway from you طِمَاحَاًa turning away
وَنَرَى عَنْكُمْ طِمَاحَاً
And is there anything like this among you,
Is there anything like this amongst you
while we see a turning away from you?
As we aspire for your heights and aims
