غَضِبَتgrew angry دودانُDudan مِنat مَسجِدِناour mosque
وَبِهِand by it يَعرِفُهُمknows them كُلُّevery أَحَدperson
Dudan grew angry at our mosque,
The ants were angered by our mosque
And by it everyone knows them.
By which everyone knows them
لَوif هَدَمناwe demolished غُدوَةًone morning بُنيانَهُits building
لَاِنمَحَتwould surely be erased أَسماؤهُمtheir names طولَthroughout الأَبَدeternity
If we demolished its building one morning,
If we had demolished its building one morning
Their names would be erased for all eternity.
Their names would have been wiped out forever
إِسمُهُمtheir name فيهِin it وَهُمand they جيرانُهُits neighbors
وَاِسمُهُand its name الدَهرَfor all time لِعَمرِوto Amr بنِson of أَسَدAsad
Their name is in it, and they are its neighbors,
Their name is in it and they are its neighbors
And its name belongs forever to Amr ibn Asad.
And its name is forever for Amr ibn Asad
كُلَّماwhenever صَلَّواthey pray قَسَمناwe divide أَجرَهُits reward
فَلَهاso theirs is النِصفُhalf عَلىfor كُلِّevery جَسَدbody
Whenever they pray, we divide its reward:
Whenever they prayed we divided the reward
So half is theirs for every body.
So it gets half for every body
وَبَنواand the sons of دودانِDudan حَيٌّa tribe سادَةٌlords
حَلَّhas settled بَيتُthe house of المَجدِglory فيهِمamong them وَالعَدَدand strength in numbers
And the sons of Dudan are a tribe of lords;
And the living ants of Dodan are chiefs
The house of glory and strength in numbers have settled among them.
The house of glory and multitude settled among them
وَلَقَدand indeed أَروحُI go out at evening بِمُشرِفٍon a tall steed ذيpossessing مَيعَةٍyouthful vigor
عَسِرِdifficult المَكَرَّةِturning back ماؤُهُits water (sweat) يَتَفَصَّدُstreams out
And indeed I ride out at evening on a tall steed full of youthful vigor,
And I surely spirit away on a fast-paced steed
Hard to turn back, its sweat streaming out,
Whose brisk waters split as they pour
مَرِحٍfrisky يَطيرُflies مِنَfrom المِراحِexuberance لُعابُهُits saliva
وَيَكادُand almost جِلدُthe skin of إِهابِهِits hide يَتَقَدَّدُsplits into strips
Frisky, its saliva flies from sheer exuberance,
Frolicking, its saliva flies from its enjoyment
And the skin of its hide almost splits into strips.
Its skin almost shreds from its exertion
حَتّىuntil عَلَوتُI ascended بِهِon it مَشَقَّthe track of ثَنِيَّةٍa mountain pass
طَوراًat times أَغورُI descend into the lowlands بِهاalong it وَطَوراًand at times أُنجِدُI ascend to the highlands
Until I rode it up the track of a mountain pass,
Until I ascended with it the steep slope of a valley
At times I descend along it into the lowlands, and at times I ascend to the highlands.
Now descending into it, now climbing back up
