ياO مَنْyou who تَكَهّنَforetold بالسُّلْوانِof solace أُدْرِكُهُI attain it
إنif صحَّproves true فَهْوَthen it is لماfor what أنبأتَyou foretold حُلْوَانُa diviner's fee
O you who foretold the solace I would attain,
O you who predicted the night visit, make it happen
if it proves true, that shall be the fee for what you foretold.
If true, it will be sweet as you claimed
أتَفْرَقُونَare you afraid? لإنكاريْbecause of my rejection ملامَكُمُyour reproach
ياO قومُpeople مَهْلاًgently فماfor ... not ذاthis اللومُreproach فرقانa criterion of truth
Are you frightened by my rejection of your reproach?
Why do you shun me and blame me
O people, gently! This reproach is no criterion of truth.
My people, wait, why this divide?
قالواthey said رُزْقِنَاwe were granted اعْتِصَاماًprotection منfrom صَبَابَتِكمyour lovesickness
وإنَّماyet ... only ذاكَthat لوif تدرونَyou knew حرمانdeprivation
They said, 'We have been granted protection from your lovesickness.'
They said, “We save our livelihood from your youthfulness
Yet that, if you knew, is nothing but deprivation.
If you only knew, that is deprivation"
ياO لابساًone wearing عزَّةَmight المولىthe master أنافِعَتيdoes it benefit me?

O you clad in a master's might, will they avail me—
O you wearing the glory of the Master, my usefulness
my obedience and defiance, with you?
To you is obedience and defiance

And O solvent one, with a debt that does not burden you,
And O one fulfilling a religion that does not burden him
will your delay and stalling toward me ever end?
Will your uncompromising freedom from me ever end?
أعِنْدَكَis ... with you? الخَصِرُthe cool water السَّلْسَالُsweet-flowing مَوْرِدُهُits watering place

Is the fountain of cool, sweet-flowing water in your keeping,
Is your waist, where chains belong, its destination?
yet no thirsty soul drinks its fill from it?
No thirsty soul ever wins a drink from it

My heart's blackness—if you knew its whereabouts—
If you knew the darkness of my heart, its terrain
were the beauty spots on your cheeks fashioned from it?
Some of it would appear as moles upon your cheeks
