هل المُنَى غير ما أدَّى أبو حكمٍ
ياO حَزْمُprudence ياO عزْمresolve ياO إقدامُboldness ياO كرمgenerosity
يا حَزْمُ يا عزْم يا إقدامُ يا كرم
Are hopes anything but what Abu Hakam has fulfilled?
Is the goal other than what Abu Hakim attained?
O prudence, O resolve, O boldness, O generosity!
O courage, o determination, o daring, o generosity
ولاnor كحمّامِهِlike his bathhouse يوماًone day وقدand already حَسَرَتْreceded
ولا كحمّامِهِ يوماً وقد حَسَرَتْ
عنهfrom him الهمومُthe cares وباحَتْand revealed themselves دونَهُbefore him الهممthe aspirations
عنه الهمومُ وباحَتْ دونَهُ الهمم
Nor anything like his bathhouse, one day, when there fell away
And his dove coop never once, though worries
From him the cares, and aspirations laid themselves bare before him.
Were lifted from it, and aspirations sobbed beneath it
كوجهكِlike your face الطلقِcheerful يَنْدىgrows dewy وهوwhile it is مُؤْتلِقٌgleaming
كوجهكِ الطلقِ يَنْدى وهو مُؤْتلِقٌ
وقلبيَand my heart الصبِّlovesick يَدْمىbleeds وهوwhile it is مُحْتَدِمburning fiercely
وقلبيَ الصبِّ يَدْمى وهو مُحْتَدِم
Like your cheerful face, dewy while it gleams,
Like your bright open face growing dewy while it beams
And my lovesick heart, bleeding while it burns.
And my ardent heart bleeding while it seethes
