نصحنا لكم نصحاً نرجّي ثوابه

من الله لا حمداً نريد ولا شكرا

من الله لا حمداً نريد ولا شكرا

We have given you sincere counsel, hoping for its reward

We counselled you with advice hoping for its reward

From God; we seek neither praise nor thanks.

From God, not seeking praise or thanks

ونحن بمكنون من السر مضمر

ونحن بمكنون من السر مضمر

نناجيكم سراً ونسمعكم جهرا

نناجيكم سراً ونسمعكم جهرا

And we bear a hidden, concealed secret;

And we with hidden secrets are harboring

We confide in you secretly and make you hear openly.

Privately we confide in you, yet loudly we make ourselves heard

فلا تعملوا أو تعلموا الباب كله

فلا تعملوا أو تعلموا الباب كله

ولا تستروه أو تحيطوا به خُبرا

ولا تستروه أو تحيطوا به خُبرا

So do not act until you know the whole subject,

So do not overdo or overstudy the matter

Nor conceal it until you fully comprehend it.

Nor conceal it, or over-occupy yourselves with it

وإن خضتم فيه بعلم وحكمة

وإن خضتم فيه بعلم وحكمة

فصبراً على ما بين أيديكمُ صبرا

فصبراً على ما بين أيديكمُ صبرا

And if you delve into it with knowledge and wisdom,

And if you delve into it with knowledge and wisdom

Then be patient with what lies before you—be patient.

Then patience over what lies before you, patience

ولا تكثروا إلا الجميل فقدّموا

ولا تكثروا إلا الجميل فقدّموا

لأنفسكم ما بين أيديكم ذخرا

لأنفسكم ما بين أيديكم ذخرا

And multiply only what is good; so lay up

And do not overindulge, but rather do good

For yourselves what lies before you as a treasure.

Prepare for yourselves what lies before you as provision

وهذا ختام القول في الحكمة التي

بدأنا بها شكراً لخالقنا شكرا

بدأنا بها شكراً لخالقنا شكرا

And this concludes the discourse on the wisdom with which
