لناbelonging to us أرضearth نشمّسهاwe expose it to sunlight زماناfor a time
لنا أرض نشمّسها زمانا
ونركبهاand we compound it ونجعلهاand we make it ذللولاtractable
ونركبها ونجعلها ذللولا
We have earth we expose to the sun for a time,
We have a land we will sunbathe for a time
And we compound it and make it tractable.
And we will ride it and make it docile
ونسقيهاand we water it منfrom الماءthe water المصفّىpurified
ونسقيها من الماء المصفّى
لدىat التعطيشparching ماwhat يشفيheals العليلاthe ailing one
لدى التعطيش ما يشفي العليلا
And we water it with purified water,
And we will water it with filtered water
When it is parched, enough to heal the ailing.
To quench the thirst when one is feeling ill
ونجعلand we make ماwhat يطيرsends flying السحقgrinding عنهاfrom it
ونجعل ما يطير السحق عنها
هباءًfine dust لاnot يحسone is aware بهof it ضئيلاminute
هباءً لا يحس به ضئيلا
And we turn what grinding sends flying from it
And we will make what flies over it
Into minute dust that cannot be sensed.
As dust that the lowly cannot feel
ونسلخand we strip ظلهاits shadow عنهاfrom it برفقgently
ونسلخ ظلها عنها برفق
يخففlightens منfrom طبيعتهاits nature الثقيلاthe heavy part
يخفف من طبيعتها الثقيلا
And we gently strip its shadow from it,
And we will gently peel its shadow off it
Lightening the heavy part of its nature.
Lightening its heavy nature
ونأخذand we take ريعناour yield منهاfrom it كثيراًabundantly
ونأخذ ريعنا منها كثيراً
لبذرfor seed قدalready طرحناهwe sowed it قليلاin small measure
لبذر قد طرحناه قليلا
And from it we take our abundant yield,
And we will take much of its yield
For seed we had sown in small measure.
For the little seeds we sowed
تعفَّرَbecame dust-covered فيin بطونdepths الأرضthe earth منهاfrom it
تعفَّرَ في بطون الأرض منها
وأطلعand brought forth نبتهاits growth زهراblossoms جميلاbeautiful
وأطلع نبتها زهرا جميلا
In the earth's depths, it became coated with its dust,
That burrowed into the depths of its soil
And its growth brought forth beautiful blossoms.
And brought up its beautiful blossoming buds
غدتbecame ألوانهاits colors سوداًblack وبيضاًand white
غدت ألوانها سوداً وبيضاً
وحمراًand red لاnot نريدwe desire بهfor it بديلاa substitute
وحمراً لا نريد به بديلا
Its colors became black and white,
Their colors became black, white
And red; we desire no substitute for it.
And red that we do not want changed
ونجعلand we make حبَّgrain سنبلناour grain-ears طحيناflour
ونجعل حبَّ سنبلنا طحينا
نخمّرهwe ferment it علىat مهلleisure طويلاfor a long time
نخمّره على مهل طويلا
And we turn the grain of our grain-ears into flour,
And we will make our wheat grains into flour
We ferment it slowly for a long time.
Fermenting it slowly over time
ونعجنand we knead منfrom خميرتهits leaven سياقاًa sequence
ونعجن من خميرته سياقاً
يحدُّsharpens علاجُهاits treatment البصرeyesight الكليلاdulled
يحدُّ علاجُها البصر الكليلا
And from its leaven we knead a sequence,
And we will knead leavened dough from it
Its treatment sharpens dulled eyesight.
Whose remedy dazzles the bleary eye
ففكرso reflect فيon الذيwhat قلناهwe have said it واصبرand be patient
ففكر في الذي قلناه واصبر
عليهwith it تستفدyou will gain رمزاًa symbol جميلاbeautiful
عليه تستفد رمزاً جميلا
So reflect on what we have said, and be patient
So think upon what we have said and be patient
With it; you will gain a beautiful symbol.
You will draw from it a beautiful symbolism
