Nurslings of basil are watered
Gardens watered with basil,
with drops of dew or the milk of recurring rains.
Sprinkled with dew or pearl necklaces,

Their garments are a deep, rich green,
Their dresses are deep green,
their color verging upon black.
Darkened by their hue to blackness.

رَخَاءٌ نفَّضَتْه يَدُ الغَوادي
When a breeze scatters musk upon them—
When the musk-laden breeze blows over them,
a gentle breeze, the musk shaken loose by the hand of morning showers—
It shakes off their languor with hands of wind.

the winds thread through them and comb them
The winds blow through them and make them dance
as a comb works through curly tresses.
Like a comb with braided hair.

They flow among them by night and pass over them,
They sway gently in the breeze and float upon it,
so their breeze grows fragrant in every valley.
Its sweet scent spreads through every valley.
