لا تيأسَنَّ إِذا ما كنتَ ذا أَدبٍ

لا تيأسَنَّ إِذا ما كنتَ ذا أَدبٍ

على خمولِكَ أنْ ترقَى إِلى الفَلَكِ

على خمولِكَ أنْ ترقَى إِلى الفَلَكِ

Never despair, if you possess learning,

Do not despair if you are well-mannered

despite your obscurity, of rising to the heavens.

Though your indolence may ascend to the stars

بينَا تَرى الذهبَ الإبرِيْزَ مُطَّرَحاً

بينَا تَرى الذهبَ الإبرِيْزَ مُطَّرَحاً

في الأرضِ إذ صار إكليلاً على مَلِكِ

في الأرضِ إذ صار إكليلاً على مَلِكِ

While you see pure gold cast aside

While you see pure gold scattered

on the ground, suddenly it becomes a crown upon a king.
