خلق الله للظلام جحيماً

خلق الله للظلام جحيماً

فهي من غيظها عليه تفورُ

God created a hell for the darkness.

God created darkness as a hell

So it seethes in its rage against the darkness.

It boiled with rage against Him

ثم أنشا سحابة فسقاها

ثم أنشا سحابة فسقاها

ريّ صوب من السحاب درورُ

ريّ صوب من السحاب درورُ

Then He brought forth a cloud and watered it

Then He created a cloud and watered it

with drenching rain pouring freely from the clouds.

Rain poured from the cloud in streams

وأماط الظلام منه برفق

وأماط الظلام منه برفق

فهي نور وما سواه غرورُ

فهي نور وما سواه غرورُ

And He gently removed the darkness from it.

And He gently lifted the darkness away

So it is light, and all else is delusion.

It became light, and all else illusion

يا لها ظلمة أقامت زماناً

يا لها ظلمة أقامت زماناً

ثم غابت فأصبحت وهي نورُ

ثم غابت فأصبحت وهي نورُ

What a darkness, lingering for a time!

Oh darkness that lasted an age

Then it vanished, and it was now light.

Then faded, becoming at dawn pure light

هكذا جاءنا الخفي من العل

هكذا جاءنا الخفي من العل

م عليه من الرموز ستورُ

م عليه من الرموز ستورُ

Thus the hidden part of knowledge came to us,

So came to us hidden knowledge

with veils of symbols over it.
