أَما تَرى المرءَ له عِبرةٌ

أَما تَرى المرءَ له عِبرةٌ

مَتْلَفةٌ يشقَى بها الحُرُّ

مَتْلَفةٌ يشقَى بها الحُرُّ

Do you not see that man has a lesson—

Do you not see that man has lessons

a ruinous one that makes the noble man suffer?

To be learned from his state of woe?

لا تلتمسُ فضلَ الغِنَى إنهُ

لا تلتمسُ فضلَ الغِنَى إنهُ

في صدفٍ أهلكه الدُّرُّ

في صدفٍ أهلكه الدُّرُّ

Do not seek the bounty of wealth; indeed,

Seek not the excess of wealth, for it

the pearl within a shell destroyed it.

Is a shell destroyed by the pearl.
