رأتshe saw إبليmy camels قدalready غالَهاdepleted them الحقُّrightful dues واتَّقىand warded off
بهاwith them الدهرَTime منهوبُone stripped of التِلادancestral wealth كريمُa noble man
She saw that rightful dues had depleted my camels, and that they had shielded
a noble man, stripped of his patrimony, from Time.
فقالتْso she said ألاwill you not تُبقِيkeep لنفسكَfor yourself هَجْمةًa herd of camels
فقدfor already دَقَّhas grown frail عظمٌbone واستشنَّand has shriveled أديمُskin
So she said, “Will you not keep a herd of camels for yourself?
For bone has grown frail and skin has shriveled.”
فقلتُso I said لهاto her عنِّيaway from me إليكِoff with you فهجمتيfor my herd
تحيَّفَهاhas whittled it away ذوone with حاجةٍa need وغَريمُand a creditor
So I said to her, “Away with you! For my herd
has been whittled away by a man in need and a creditor.
فإنَّfor indeed امرَءاًa man لمhas not يرزأdiminished الحقُّrightful dues مالَهُhis wealth
ولمand has not يفتقِرْbecome poor عنfrom ثروةٍwealth للئيمُis surely base
For a man whose wealth rightful dues have not diminished,
and who has not fallen from wealth into poverty, is surely base.”
