To a mountain above you that brings forth wealth.

Take it, then return it to its origin, from which

Its growth branched forth and took form:

A fine dust that does not settle under its own weight,

And water of life, of high worth and dearly prized.

Safeguard them both from everything, and make secure

For it a receptacle of glass, clear and pure in hue,

With impregnable sides and a tightly sealed top, confining

The breath of air within it, as a safeguard.

    And do not tire of grinding, for it is the key;

Through it the secret that was hidden becomes manifest.

For if the noble earth softens, it brings forth

For you blossoms whose colors delight hearts.

The earth is pregnant with embryos for a time,

And with fire and water it nourishes the child over time.

And do not let the seeds you have sown

Dry up, causing you to miss the harvest of your fruits.

And do not neglect the fire of incubation, for it

Transforms whatever you wish, outwardly and inwardly.

And nurture it a long time; do not tire of nursing it,

So that its joints grow firm and sturdy.

That is the binding of what was separated, through strong

Interpenetration within its parts and firm cohesion.

And if you repeat the coagulation of its solution,

Many times in succession, it becomes dearer and more valuable.

If you seek its carrying power, then drip

Onto the shell some reddened, thickened blood.

I have laid bare my secret to you and revealed my wisdom,

And openly divulged God's secret in creation.

So if you do not understand it, seek the aid of reflection

That makes whatever was difficult in the matter easy.

For through thought we gained knowledge of what was hidden, after

We made it a tireless pursuit and a constant habit.

    And do not abandon concealing it if you learn it;

And be a storehouse on earth for God's secret.

My Lord endowed me with this knowledge, instructing me,

And clarified for me what they had obscured, making it plain.

    And do not grow arrogant if you attain what I have mentioned;

And seek loftiness through it, and win through it your desires.
