لَعمرُكَ ما أُغِبُّكَ عن فُتورٍ

بوُدِّكَ أو قصورٍ عن هَواكا

بوُدِّكَ أو قصورٍ عن هَواكا

By your life, my infrequent visits are not due to any waning

By your life, I do not blame you for any coldness

of affection for you, or any failing in my love for you.

In your affection or shortcoming in your passion

ولكنّي استنبتُ ضميرَ قلبي

لديكَ فصارَ لي عيناً تراكا

But I appointed my heart's inmost thought as my deputy

But I have made my heart grow aware

with you, and it became an eye for me that sees you.

ولو فتشتَ عن مكنونِ سِرِّي

نظرتَ فلم تجدْ فيه سِواكا

And were you to search for my hidden secret,

you would look and find nothing in it but you.

ولا واللّهِ ما بي من سكُونٍ

No, by God, I have no peace
