كونُواbe (you all) جميعَاًall together ياO بَنِيَّmy sons إِذاwhen اعتَرىbefalls
كونُوا جميعَاً يا بَنِيَّ إِذا اعتَرى
خَطْبٌa calamity ولاand do not تتفرقُواyou scatter آحادَاsingly
خَطْبٌ ولا تتفرقُوا آحادَا
Be united, my sons, when there comes
Be united, my sons, when misfortunes gather
A calamity, and do not scatter singly.
And do not scatter as individuals
تأبَىresist القِداحُthe arrow shafts إِذاwhen اجتمعْنَthey gather together تكسُّراًbreaking
تأبَى القِداحُ إِذا اجتمعْنَ تكسُّراً
وإِذاand when افترقْنَthey separate تكسَّرتْthey break أفرادَاindividually
وإِذا افترقْنَ تكسَّرتْ أفرادَا
Arrow shafts resist breaking when gathered together,
Goblets resist breaking when assembled
And when separated, they break one by one.
And when separated, break one by one
