إذا ما الشمس في السرطان صارت

فدونك هيكل القوس المبارك

When the sun has entered Cancer,

Then take the blessed temple of Sagittarius.

فتحت دوائه الأفلاك روح

من الناسوت قد حملت ثمارك

For beneath its remedy the spheres are a spirit [wording uncertain],

From the human realm, it has borne your fruits.

سواد عروقها يجنيك ورداً

ترى فيه احمرارك واصفرارك

The blackness of its veins yields you roses,

In which you see your redness and your yellowness.

وقد فرشت برضراض كريم

يولدّ صبغ جوهره نضارك

And it has been strewn with precious gravel,

The tint of its substance brings forth your pure gold.

فخذ رضراضه واتركه فيما

يقيه سم ريحك أو غبارك

So take its gravel and leave it in what

Shields it from your wind's poison or your dust.

ورشّ عليه ماء العين حتى

يرطبه لدى السحق المبارك

And sprinkle spring water over it until

It moistens it during the blessed grinding.

وأنعم سحقه بالماء واعزل

أذاه وأهد عند الطبخ نارك

And grind it finely with water, and separate

Its harmful matter, and temper your fire while cooking.

وخذ منه السواد تجد ضياء

كجنح الليل حين جلا نهارك

And take the blackness from it: you will find radiance,

Like night's wing when your daylight shines clear.

وسخّنه ورطبه وحمّر

به الياقوت فهو ينير دارك

And heat it, moisten it, and redden

The ruby with it, for it illuminates your home.

هو الجسد الغليظ غدا لطيفاً

بوزن الروح تحسبه ادارك

It is the dense body, now grown subtle,

By the spirit's weight you reckon it has caught up [uncertain reading].

به يشفى سقيمك وهو يعطي

غنى أبداً فيؤمنك افتقارك

Through it your sick one is healed, and it gives

Wealth forever, thus shielding you from your poverty.

عطية ربنا وأجل نعمى

له إن أنت أحسنتَ اعتبارك

A gift from our Lord, and the greatest blessing

Of His, if you reflect well.

تبارك من عطاياه جسام

وأنعمه مضاعفة تبارك

Blessed is He whose gifts are immense,

And whose blessings are multiplied—blessed is He!
