إنّindeed الألىthose who ضربواthey set forth لناfor us مثلاًa parable
إنّ الألى ضربوا لنا مثلاً
فيabout البيضeggs قالواthey spoke الحقthe truth فيin المثلِthe parable
في البيض قالوا الحق في المثلِ
Indeed, those who set forth a parable for us
Indeed they set an example for us
about eggs spoke the truth in their parable.
In the eggs they spoke the truth in the example
جعلوهthey made it منof تدبيرهمtheir procedure وسطاًa middle stage
جعلوه من تدبيرهم وسطاً
والبدءand the beginning محذوفاomitted منfrom العملthe work
والبدء محذوفا من العمل
They made it the middle stage of their procedure,
They made it the middle of their management
and the beginning was omitted from the work.
And the beginning is omitted from the deed
حضنوهthey incubated it أياماfor days لهاfor them عددٌa number
حضنوه أياما لها عددٌ
جمٌّgreat بلاwithout سأمweariness ولاnor مللِboredom
جمٌّ بلا سأم ولا مللِ
They incubated it for days whose number was
They brooded them days that have number
great, without weariness or boredom.
A group without boredom or weariness
واستخرجواand they brought forth منهاfrom them فراخهمُtheir chicks
واستخرجوا منها فراخهمُ
ألوانهاtheir colors شتىdiverse علىat مهلa leisurely pace
ألوانها شتى على مهل
And they brought forth their chicks from them,
And extracted from them their chicks
their colors diverse, at a leisurely pace.
Their colors are various slowly
فيهنamong them طاووسيةa peacock-hued one نجتit shed
فيهن طاووسية نجت
حللrobes الغرابthe raven ودكنةand the dusky hue الحجلthe partridge
حلل الغراب ودكنة الحجل
Among them, a peacock-hued one shed
Among them are peahens that hatched
the raven's robes and the partridge's dusky hue.
The raven’s attire and the darkness of ink
ماءٌwater ومحٌand yolk صارbecame قشرُهماthe shell of both
ماءٌ ومحٌ صار قشرُهما
كنفاًa shelter وواقيةand a safeguard منagainst الخللdamage
كنفاً وواقية من الخلل
Water and yolk—the shell of both became
Water and dash became their shells
a shelter and a safeguard against damage.
A cloak and protection from defects
مثلa parable ضربناهwe set it forth فَضًلَّand so went astray بهthrough it الthe
مثل ضربناه فَضًلَّ به ال
جهّالٌignorant people أهلpeople of النوكfolly والخبلِand madness
جهّالٌ أهل النوك والخبلِ
A parable we set forth, and so through it went astray the
An example we set so the ignoble went astray
ignorant, people of folly and madness.
