A land of ours brought forth gold,
A land that grew gold for us
in foam they call flame.
In foam they call lava
صعدتit rose بأجنحةon wings المليكةthe queen نحtoward (first fragment)
صعدت بأجنحة المليكة نح
وtoward (final fragment) الجوthe air تبغيit seeks عندهthere, with it أرباa desire
و الجو تبغي عنده أربا
It rose on the queen’s wings toward
I ascended with the wings of the queen
the air, seeking there what it desired.
And the air tries to find there prey
حتىuntil إذاwhen بلغتit reached نهايتهاits limit
حتى إذا بلغت نهايتها
عادتit returned تحاولit seeks فيin الثرىthe soil سرباa tunnel
عادت تحاول في الثرى سربا
Until, when it reached its limit,
Until when it reached its end
it returned, seeking a tunnel in the soil.
It returned trying in the ground to slip
كبريتةa piece of sulfur منfrom أرضناour earth خرجتit emerged
كبريتة من أرضنا خرجت
صبغwas dyed اللجينthe silver بشمسهاby its sun ذهباgold

A piece of sulfur emerged from our earth;
A match from our land came out
silver was dyed gold by its sun.
Dyeing the mud with its sun gold
يسقيslakes بهاwith it التنينُthe dragon جوعتَهits hunger
يسقي بها التنينُ جوعتَه
وهيand it التيthat which يدعونهاthey call it ذهباgold
وهي التي يدعونها ذهبا
The dragon slakes its hunger with it,
The dragon waters his hunger with it
and it is what they call gold.
