وكأنماand as though الشمسُthe sun المنيرةُradiant إذْwhen بدتْit appeared
وكأنما الشمسُ المنيرةُ إذْ بدتْ
والبدرُand the full moon يجنَحُinclines للمغيبtoward setting ويغْرُبُand sets
والبدرُ يجنَحُ للمغيب ويغْرُبُ
And it is as though the radiant sun, when it appeared,
The radiant sun appeared
and the full moon, inclining toward its setting and going down,
As the moon folded its wings to set
متحاربانِtwo combatants مِجَنُّthe shield ذاof this one قدalready صاغَهُhe fashioned it
متحاربانِ مِجَنُّ ذا قد صاغَهُ
منfrom فضةٍsilver ولذاand for this one مِجَنٌّa shield مُذْهَبُgilded
من فضةٍ ولذا مِجَنٌّ مُذْهَبُ
were two combatants: this one's shield has been fashioned
Like two warriors locked in strife
of silver, and that one's shield is gilded.
One forged of silver, the other gilded gold
