وجَنَّةٍand a garden بالطِيبِby fragrance موصوفةٍcharacterized
وجَنَّةٍ بالطِيبِ موصوفةٍ
مَوشِيَّةِembroidered الأرجَاءِthe edges منسوجَهْwoven
مَوشِيَّةِ الأرجَاءِ منسوجَهْ
And a garden described as fragrant,
A garden perfumed with sweet scent
Embroidered at its edges and woven,
Its corners embroidered
كأنَّماas though أزهارُblossoms أشجارِهَاits trees
كأنَّما أزهارُ أشجارِهَا
وَشْيٌembroidery علىupon حَسناءَa beauty مغنوجَهْcoquettish
وَشْيٌ على حَسناءَ مغنوجَهْ
As though the blossoms of its trees
As if its tree flowers
Were embroidery upon a coquettish beauty.
Are braids on a beautiful maiden
يَشُقُّهاcuts through it فيin وَسْطِهاits middle جَدْولٌa stream
يَشُقُّها في وَسْطِها جَدْولٌ
مياهُهُits waters العَذْبَةُsweet مثلوجَهْice-cold
مياهُهُ العَذْبَةُ مثلوجَهْ
A stream cuts through its middle;
A stream cuts through its middle
Its sweet waters are ice-cold.
Its fresh waters frozen
لهit has سَواقٍwater channels طفحَتْoverflowed والتوَتْand twisted
له سَواقٍ طفحَتْ والتوَتْ
تلوّيَthe writhing of الحيَّةِthe snake مشجوجَهْwith its head gashed
تلوّيَ الحيَّةِ مشجوجَهْ
It has channels that overflowed and twisted
It has channels that overflowed and twisted
Like the writhing of a snake with a gashed head.
Like the coils of a serpent
فهيso they are رماحٌspears أُشْرِعَتْwere leveled نحوَهاtoward it
فهي رماحٌ أُشْرِعَتْ نحوَها
تطعنُهاpierce it سُلْكَىstraight on ومخلوجَهْand obliquely
تطعنُها سُلْكَى ومخلوجَهْ
So they are spears leveled toward it,
So they are spears unfurled towards it
Piercing it straight on and obliquely.
